An important update about safe sweeteners.
Based upon a new study from researchers at the Cleveland Clinic, stay away from erythritol, a popular sweetener. It increases the risk of having a heart attack or stroke because it promotes clot formation. In contrast, honey (raw honey is always preferred) is gaining a lot of scientific support as a brain booster in 2023. A review article published in the January issue of Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience highlights studies where honey shows promise in four main brain health benefits:
Memory booster.
Neuroprotection against Alzheimer’s disease and brain aging.
Anti-stress effects.
Pain relieving actions.
Super short post today!! The evolution of our understanding is an important dynamic. Erythritol was initially thought to be a benign sugar alcohol which made it a safe alternative. Showing a potential downside is necessary to enable better decisions. Considering the health risks of artificial sweeteners, the market dominance in spite of those risks continues to amaze me.
Processed "food" compared to truly unprocessed food should be a no brainer when we make our buying decisions.
